It's not rare at all. I would go on to say "it was used a lot by x, y and z" but I have no idea which famous bands use it (apart
from The Livid) I just know it's pretty common.

Hey. The Eb sus4 open is the same as DADGAD, just half a step higher. I never heard of DADGAD until about a year after I started using Eb sus4 open.
It actually started when I was in Drop d down a half step but using a capo on the second fret. The problem I ran into was that i wrote a riff (the
intro to watch it die) that sounded cool with the two high strings open, but since I had the capo on it I couldn't have them open. So I sawed
off one third of the capo. I then realized that I wasn't getting as much sustain when using a capo, so I just decided to tune my guitar to
whatever the notes were when I had the capo on. It turned out to be Eb, Bb, Eb, Ab, Bb, Eb.
The tuning for Shaded and a couple of the new songs is Eb minor 7. Jeremy actually made up a slightly different version of that tuning a while ago.
I just started writing in it. In his version the high E was tuned to a Db, as opposed to an Eb.
The other tuning I use is just Drop D down a half step.

Only guy/band I can think of who uses really outrageous tunings is Don Ross, for Afraid to Dance I thnk it's EBEDBE or something along those
lines, it's a known tuning but I can't think of the name. But yeah, stuff like that and also other, even wierder, tunings.

lost prophets use CGCFAD alot, if u call that "outrageous". its only drop d then drop whole step. i think chris' tunning is probably
the weirdest i've seen. but its fun to play around w/ EbBbEbAbBbEb

I ran out of top E strings once, and was too lazy to go to the shop and get a new one. So I had a 5 string guitar for a couple of weeks, and I wrote a
song with it. Now I can't play it with 6, the E string always gets in the way

If you're into crazy tunings check out Michael Hedges. He's an acoustic guitar virtuoso.

interesting tunings
It's nice to see a band (the Livid) that uses some interesting tunings. I'm in a band who uses some interesting tunings as well.
ie: D G D G A# D
C G D G A# C
C G D G G C
open C is always nice as well
D A D G A D is a favourite as well.
Anyways, you guys are sounding good. Take it easy.
