Alike some of Tremendous' compadres, I too was appauled at even speaking about LOTR. However, when I sat down to watch the movie, I
couldn't manage to peel my arse off the couch.
Haven't watched/read Happy Potter yet, it's a bit too young for me.

That's a common misconception,Arnold.
Harry Potter books are enjoyed by adults as well. The content in these books can be understood by older children (above the age of 10 to fully
understand what's being talked about) and young adults as well.
The context in which J.K Rowling wrote these books is simply brilliant.

Couldn't have said it better myself, Dez. Ignorant people who haven't read the books and say they are "tupid" obviously have
no idea what they are talking about.

I mean, at least Arnold didn't bash Harry Potter. He just said the idea doesn't interest him. And that's ok. But to say something
sucks and really know nothing about it is just ignorant.
Basically, Danielle, by your justification, anything Fantasy sucks and is stupid. I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but that is what
you said. I would actually bet that if you read the Harry Potter books you would love them.
On a somewhat related note, a pet peeve of mine has always been people that want to grow up too fast and are afraid of their inner child.

ok there is a difference between LOTR and HP. LOTRs is loosly base on bible teaching when gandalf died and became gandalf the white its like Jesus
dieing and rising again. And well if my churches youth group went to see it we know it is a good movie with good teachings. One movie I really want
to see is the Passion of the Christ... but i dont know if i have the stomach to handle it... so i will wait till it comes out on dvd.

I just felt like mentioning that in the second Harry Potter story Harry was enticed by a snake to go somewhere he shouldn't (at least
that's what I think happened) which you could directly relate to the tale of Adam and Eve being enticed by a snake to eat the forbidden fruit.
Therefore by that logic, Harry Potter can be categorized also as bible teachings.
If you don't like the story, that's fine by me, but at least try and learn the story before you bash it, otherwise you give the impression
of ignorance which is a rather unpleasant quality.

I have not watched (or read) either Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings....I think it's due to the fact that they're long and I can't
sit still for long periods of time. I suppose I could also watch each of them over a period of time.

HOLLY FAWK!!!!! I just saw last night Micheal Angelo Batio do a guitar clinic at Steves Music. This guy is known world wide as the
fastest guitarist, and the only to play a two neck guitar at the same time. This guy did stuff last night I never thought possible on the guitar. A
very friendly and funny person, It was his second time in toronto and his last. If anyone is curious on his psychotic playing. their are videos and
mp3's on his website. http://www.angelo.com
here's a pic of him (i took from his site.)

I'm guessing he plays tap style with the two necks? If so, it's kinda (well, a lot) more impressive on a one necked guitar. The guitar
does look cool though, and kudos to him for breaking away from the norm, sometimes I get sick of the same old crap being played over and over by
different artists.

Wow! LOTRs IS based on the bible. The writer was a devote catholic, and even stated that he based them on Biblical teachings and stories.
I like reading the newspaper...you learn a lot.

Tolkien was Catholic, but he also studied Beowulf and medieval legends ... meaning the story is based more on old legends and universal themes.
There's very little "Bible" in there.

Okie well we studied an article about it in religion class. Tolkien himself said that it was based upon the bible. Just like when the Chronicles of
Narnia.
