Stuart Hamm

Um, I was just wondering if anyone else here listened to Stu Hamm, none of my friends do, or anyone else I know for that matter. SO I was just curious to know if anyone else liked his style of playing (I personally love it, and wish I could play as good as he does).

I got to meet Stu at the Steve Vai show a little while back. He's a great guy and a fuckin' awesome bass player.

Woah, if I ever met him I'd get him to sign my bass (never getting rid of it, eventually it'll have the signatures of every great bass player in the World, except Pastorius, may he rest in peace).

But yeah, I know the first few bars of every one of his songs, unfortunately that's about all I know, as soon as they get the least bit tricky I'm screwed (although I know I can play Sleigh Ride, because I've played it in parts, but I always screw up when I play it as a whole, and also keep forgetting sections, so I guess I can't play it).

Ever since I got G3 and saw him and Satriani doing their little duel thing at the start of Summer Song I was hooked. Then on Satriani live at San Fran his solo was awesome pity 75% of it is shown from behind

He is Joe Satriani's bassist, and an absolute God on the instrument. He does a lot of double tapping, tap (artificial) harmonics and insanely fast slap stuff.

He's also the only bassist I've ever heard who's played a bassline, rhythm and lead on a four string (albeit the lead isn't very complex, i.e. it's no Classical Gas, but you've got to remember he has two less strings).

Stu Ham is good, but Victor Wooten takes the cake as best contemporary bassist.

Whenever the Joe Satriani announced his name, it's sounds like the crowd are saying "Booo" instead of "Stu". It gets confusing.

Rob, you have great taste. Hey, maybe you can bust out some funky bass solo in the new Livid stuff.

Speaking of stu, I was downloading a bunch of his powertabs on powertabs.net. Sin, you should check them out. There is a couple new ones added in the last couple days. They don't look too hard to play, but they sound superb.

Yeah, I have Moonlight Sonata which I'm sorta halfway through, but stopped learning because I've decided to start focusing on one song to learn, instead of about 5 at a time. I also have Country Music, Kings of Sleep, Terminal Beach and Sleigh Ride (which I can play except for the bit I need a five string for, I just play it an octave higher for now).
