If you're a beginner just get a cheap Yamaha or something.

Yamaha's are good. My brother in law just bought a Yamaha for around that price. I've been playing it and it sounds great and stays in
tune well.
Also, I'd buy a small chromatic tuner for when you get the guitar. It may take a while to learn to tune by ear, and it's just so much
faster and no hassle if you have one.

The only real brand of tuners I can think of that I have seen is Korg. You can buy really cheap tuners for around 10 dollars. But I wouldn't
recommend it. They usually have trouble picking up the noise, and whne it does, alot of the times it will show the wrong notes. If you spend anywhere
from 20-25 dollars you can get a good, reliable tuner. They are really tiny and yu can find them in any guitar store. It will probably be called a
"Korg CH-1", or something like that.

I have 3 yamaha guitars. Electric, acoustic and bass. All 3 are fine instruments, and certainly much less expensive than the equivalent quality
Fender, Ibanez, etc...

I would recommend a Seagull guitar. They are made by Robert Godin's luthier company. They're relatively cheap (3 - 400 dollar range) and
are extremely versitile, playable guitars.
If you are a female you may consider looking into a guitar with a smaller body. As stupid as it sounds, your breasts may hinder your ability to rest
your guitar on your knee and against your body. I know a few girl guitarists and have had the opportunity to talk with them at length about this
problem. A guitar with a smaller body can reduce or eliminate this problem.

Bart, with your tuner, do you have to plug an instrument in to make it work, or is thier a mic, as well? You know, for guitars that can't be
plugged in.

it's got a mic and a jack socket. and my volume pedal has a constant full volume output, so i can plug the tuner in there - means it's
always got signal, and it isn't part of the chain so sound quality is maximum. double bonus.
